Highway Safety Grant
The West Columbia Police Department has received a grant from the S.C. Office of Highway Safety to make the roadways of West Columbia a safer place for both motorists and pedestrians.  The award of $198,242 will fund two full-time traffic officers along with the equipment necessary for them to do their job.  The unit will proactively enforce speed limits as well as seat belt and child safety seat laws and impaired driving from drugs and alcohol  Additionally, they will provide child safety seat installation and educational programs to youth groups to reinforce safe driving habits.
