Alive at 25
The West Columbia Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Division has recently been certified, through the South Carolina National Safety Council, to provide the Alive at 25 Defensive Driving program.

The Alive at 25 Defensive Driving program is an intervention program for drivers between the ages of 15-24, which is statistically, the group most likely to be involved in fatal traffic collisions.

This course is offered to young drivers, in an effort to help prevent traffic violations, traffic collisions, and/or fatalities. This course places its focus on educating young drivers to adopt safer driving practices, take responsibility for their behavior in various driving situations, and to be aware of many of the typical driving hazards. Unlike traditional driver’s education courses that focus on the mechanics of driving, Alive at 25 addresses the behaviors of drivers.

The 4-1/2 hour program is limited to 30 students per class, and will be offered on March 28th at the West Columbia Police Department (200 N 12th Street, West Columbia, SC 29169). The class will begin promptly at 4:00 p.m. and end promptly at 8:30 p.m.

If you are a young adult who is interested in improving your defensive driving skills, please contact Patrolman First Class Jason Spears with the West Columbia Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Division at (803) 794-0721 extension 856 or the South Carolina National Safety Council at (800) 733-6185 to receive a registration form.

The registration fee for the Alive at 25 course is $35.00. The South Carolina National Safety Council does offer scholarships to drivers who require financial assistance. Sponsorship registration forms are available from the South Carolina National Safety Council by calling (803) 732-6778.

For additional information, contact Patrolman First Class Jason Spears at 794-0721 x856.
