Community Action Team (CAT)

Sergeant Eugene Hammill has served the citizens of West Columbia since 2014. Sergeant Hammill oversees the Community Action Team and the department’s School Resource Officers, Animal Control officers, and River District Officers. Sergeant Hammill is responsible for all events in the city requiring a law enforcement presence. He oversees various special programs throughout the year designed to assist West Columbia citizens in need including a fan program, holiday season food assistance, the administration of the city’s food bank program, and numerous other programs that assist with the unique needs of our community. School Resource Officers (SROs)

The West Columbia Police Department employs four full-time school resource officers. Each officer is certified for the position through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Each public school in the city of West Columbia has a school resource officer in addition to some of the charter institutions.
